Why is my A/C not cooling my apartment down??
I called my apartment office to get someone to come fix yesterday…which they were supposed to come fix it this morning and it has yet to be done….
Anyways, sorry for the rant…My air conditioner is just running and running…I have it set to the low 70’s and the temp. is reading 80 degrees…What’s wrong with it??? It seems like all it’s doing is re-circulating the air without cooling the apartment down!!! (And to make matters worse…I am living in SOUTH FLORIDA AND IT’S JUNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Aaaaah!! Please help? What is wrong with the stupid thing?? Does it need more Free-on or what?
*Also, this air conditioner has coils that will form a thick sheet of ice on it if the temp drops “too low” (ie: below 70 degrees) I just need some peace of mind in knowing I am not crazy and that something is definitely wrong with the a/c and not me…
The repairman seems to think there’s nothing wrong with it the last time he checked it and I know there is….so help? Please?
Run the fan on constant high for best cooling and to help keep the evaporator from freezing up.
If the filter is clean maybe the fan, the blower wheel (also called the squirrel cage) is very dirty. It doesn’t take all that much lint to reduce air flow at like 1,600 rpm. Do you have a cat?
Those fans are hard to get to as they are tucked behind the evaporator coil and surrounded with insulation. You might try to blast it clean with a can of compressed air like for cleaning computers. You likely can only see part of it, the top, at a time.
