Free Living Will Ohio

Funeral Directors in Columbus, Ohio and everywhere else.?
I am currently in an online mortuary science program through the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. I do not come from a “funeral family.” I live in Columbus, Ohio and I’m having a hard time getting my foot in the door to get some experience. I’ve cold called, sent out letters of interest and even visited some local funeral homes explaining my interest. I’ve offered to work part time or even free from doing removals to answering phones and everything in between and no one seems to want my help. I’m definitely not expecting to start from the top but I’d like to do something involved with the business so I can apply it to what I’m learning in my classes and hopefully build some up some networking contacts for when I finally do get my license. What else can I do? Remember I will WORK FOR FREE! I JUST WANT SOME HANDS ON EXPERIENCE!!!
Not coming from a “funeral family” makes it difficult to actually get your foot in the door. I myself did not come from a funeral family but I went to a mortuary school that wasn’t online so I was able to get some type of experience and learn hands on. Thats the plus side to being in a classroom setting. Have you tried getting in contact with the person over the mortuary science program at the institute? Maybe they can hook you up with something. Ohio has like the best mortuary science school there. The cincinnati college of mortuary science. Have you thought about giving that a try? The best advice I can give you is keep trying. I basically went into a funeral home one day and told them I needed some experience under my belt and I didn’t care if I worked for free as long as I was able to learn as much as possible and he hired me. Could’ve been the lowcut top too lol give it a try!
