Hospice Of Ohio Living Wills

Every year millions of lovers celebrate Sweetest Day with chocolates, candies, candlelight dinners and of course a bouquet of beautiful flowers for their love. But did you know that the original Sweetest Day was created to brighten the lives of orphans, the sick and underprivileged in society? Herbert Birch Kingston, a philanthropist and employee of a candy company created Sweetest Day when he first distributed free candy to the poor in Cleveland, Ohio back in 1922. For years Sweetest Day was celebrated mostly in the Great Lakes and Northeast regions; but has slowly spread across the country. As Americans have migrated they have taken their Sweetest Day traditions with them and created new ones. What new Sweetest Day traditions will you create? Here are some ideas about how you can make this Sweetest Day meaningful for the underprivileged:

Helping The Homeless

Homelessness is a huge problem, especially if you live in a large city. Many volunteer their holidays cooking in homeless shelters or delivering toys to homeless kids during Christmas. Why not get together with co-workers and deliver a bundle of Daisies for a homeless shelter in your community. Flowers will be a pleasant surprise for those who rarely receive gifts of pure aesthetic beauty.

Flora Healing For The Sick/Dying

Millions of Americans get sick and have extended stays in the hospital or hospice. Unfortunately many don’t have living relatives or friends, especially if they are elderly. This Sweetest Day consider visiting a hospital or hospice with potted Mums. Ask the nurse if she/he will deliver the flowers to a patient who doesn’t get many visitors.

Acts Of Random Flower Kindness

In our culture we’re often intimidated by the faces we see everyday as we walk in our neighborhoods, go to work or shop. Sometimes we get so caught up in our own thoughts, troubles, worries or simply what we’re cooking for dinner, we never take the time to just say hello. Here’s a game to play. Pick one of those faces you see everyday…one that often looks angry and shock them by giving them a bouquet of sunflowers for Sweetest Day. Watch their mouth drop open with surprised delight.

Remember Sweetest Day is the 3rd Saturday of October. What will your Sweetest Day tradition be?
