My sister-in-law threatened to commit suicide, what will happen to her 4 children?

I live in Florida and my sister-in-law is married with 4 small children. She is a little… how can I put it… crazy? We DO NOT associate with this part of the family. Well she had a fight with her husband and threatened to commit suicide. She was admitted to the hospital, when she gets out will she be allowed around these kids alone? I am terrified for these kids, they are already pretty much neglected by the parents and if she would do this to herself, I can’t imagine what she would do to these small children. What can I do?

When she gets out she should be assigned a social worker who will have the childrens needs first. If the husband is not a fit parent then the children should go to a relative if there is one. An unstable mother cannot care for her children properly but that doesn’t necessarily mean they will be taken away. Only her therapist can judge whether she is capable to care for her kids. He will make a recommendation to the county whether the kids stay or go.
