Hello, I live in Indiana … 7 days ago I received a 1996 Ford Wind Star, in a used car dealership. I made a deposit of 50% and I will pay the remaining months. Yesterday I started having problems overheating. So I took it to my local mechanic and he said head gasket is bad, it will cost $ 500 – $ 1000 for repair. I have not got that much money to put in this mini-van. I bought this mini-van as a family vehicle that I have a 1 year old son and the dealer said he would do nothing to help me with this! Am covered by a "lemon law" I can ask for my money?
The Indiana lemon law apply only to new vehicles for 18 months or less than 18,000 miles on them. Dealers allowed to have a vehicle inspected by an independent mechanic to avoid the problem we are having now. The only way the seller will help with this is that if you were given any kind of warranty with the vehicle and only if specifically focused on a head gasket. If you taking the bill for everything, talk to the dealership. Let's see if they will cut you a deal on compensation if they have a garage there, because it was a recent purchase.
