I live in Texas- Can my landlord legally raise my rent every time she has to make repairs ?
Every time my landlord has to make repairs she raises my rent. My husband and I have been renting this house from her for about 11 years now. For example 7 years ago we told her the roof was leaking in a few places not real bad but leaking she had it replaced earlier this year and raised our rent, our air conditioner she was told 3 years ago needed to be replaced she kept telling us it would be every time we called her to complained finally the air conditioner burned up now she says if she replaces it she will have to go up on our rent. When asked how much she would go up on it she replied it depends on the cost to replace it. Can she legally do that ?
If you have a lease, the rent can not be raised during the term of that lease. It can be raised whenever the lease is renewed. If you are on a month to month basis, it can be raised monthly if the landlord decides to do so.
